Leav

co-Founder & Project Curator (2013-2015)

Leav is a mobile platform for placing, viewing, and sharing digital art that is both shaped by and linked to specific variables like location, time, and other environmental factors. Using GPS data and a phone’s directional orientation, Leav allows you to experience art such as a symphony in which orchestral parts come in and out based on which street you’re standing, a film only viewable from 5-6pm in a park on a Tuesday, or a story about the neighborhood in which you stand. Leav provides unique opportunities to rethink interactivity and engage people in the world and is a new means of storytelling that fosters interactions with audiences that wouldn’t otherwise exist.

Creative collaborators included Eric William Carroll, Kate Cassanova, Bryce Dessner, Holly Hansen, Chris Koza, Michael Perry, Stuart Pimsler Dance and Theater, and Andy Sturdevant, along with Eaux Claires Festival, Minnesota State Fair, Revolver Magazine for AWP Conference, SPCO/Liquid Music Series, Sounds From a Safe Harbour (Cork, Ireland), Springboard For the Arts with St. Paul Public Library, and TPT.

Selected awards and press included: IFPMN & McKnight New Media Grant (2013), The Wrap: Leav Feature - TPT (2014), MPR Art Hounds (2014), “Best Local App” - City Pages (2015), MN Original Feature (2015), MSAB Artist Initiative Grantee (2015), 3M & Minneapolis Institute of Art: Art & Tech Award Finalist (2015).

Multidisciplinary Artist

I am a multidisciplinary artist with a varied background as a ballet dancer, choreographer, literary editor, professional musician, curator, and digital placemaker. I’ve danced on stages with symphony orchestras, created video dance works for artists such as The National, Local Natives, and Zoo Animal, drummed and sang with a variety of bands, and was ‘Picked to Click’ in 2008. Along with some wonderful collaborators I’ve explored opportunities to digitally integrate the arts into the places people live, work, and play in the form of a interactive and multidisciplinary quarterly, Minneapplesauce, and later Leav, a mobile platform for placing, viewing, and sharing digital art that is both shaped by and linked to specific variables like location, time, and other environmental factors.
